Tina Tina Amanda AmandaMaureen excelled at sports and was a fan of rough, competitive games. It was this passion that was also matched with a natural talent for performance. It was evident when she took home each Feis in drama and theatre the Irish had to offer. Maureen was a part of the Abbey Theater by age 14, where she continued to pursue her passion for opera and classical theater. Charles Laughton was mesmerized after watching an Maureen screen test. He became captivated by the beautiful eyes she had. Laughton changed her name to Maureen FitzSimons changed from Maureen FitzSimons, to "Maureen O'Hara" that was a shorter version of her last name. It was just before Laughton decided to use her for Jamaica Inn. In contract with Laughton and Erich Pommer, her following film was set to be shot on location in America (The Hunchback of Notre-Dame (1939)) at RKO Pictures. Maureen had the opportunity to purchase her contract with Laughton after the film was an immense success. At the age of 19, Maureen had already been in two motion picture majors together with Laughton.
