Her achievements as a young performer in America (which we call Maureen O'Hara today) would have definitely put her into the child-prodigy class. But for a young Irish girl with talented parents and extended family these traits came as a naturally. Maureen came to this loving sanctuary on August 17th, 1920. She was raised by her parents and family members. Marguerita FitzSimons' mom, Lilburn, was an contralto. Charles FitzSimons ran a Dublin company, and also owned shares in the Irish soccer team Shamrock Rovers. Maureen FitzSimons was the daughter of Charles FitzSimons. Peggy, Florrie Charles B. Fitzsimons Margot Fitzsimons completed this lovely family. Maureen enjoyed playing athletic games as a child and excelled at sports. Her natural ability to perform was the perfect match for her interest in sport. It was evident when she was awarded each Feis for drama and theater the Irish had to provide. When she was fourteen, she was admitted into the Abbey Theater, where her ambition was to study operatic singing as well as classical theater.
